Youth Talent Project
Inviting youth (12-18 years old) who have a talent & love for singing and/or dancing, to participate in a talent show at
St. Columba Catholic Church, Oakland. Our purpose is to highlight the talent of black youth who live in cities that are part of the Oakland Catholic Diocese, which includes Alameda & Contra Costa Counties.
Some of these cities include Oakland/Emeryville , Berkeley, El Cerrito, Richmond; as well as Pittsburg, Antioch, Concord, San Leandro, & Castro Valley to name a few. Song & dance are a big part of black culture that sometimes highlights our struggles, joy, growth, and accomplishments in this genre.
We also want to provide an opportunity to become a member of St Columba to (hopefully) increase youth membership, because you are our future! You do not have to be catholic to apply. Participants must commit to attending 3 weekend church services within one year (bring a friend/optional), and attend at least one service during our African American Celebration (mid January-end of February 2026). Participants will be judged on actual talent, personality, & attire.
Reward: spiritual growth, growing faith & confidence as a black person, recognition within the Catholic Diocese of Oakland & communities at large, and monetary. (receive one half of reward at end of competition, and the remaining half of reward at the end of year, if commitment fulfilled).
First Prize $500; Second Prize $300; Third Prize $250
